Diana Jacobs's mixed media on canvas Pentimento works are tactile, physical, sensual extensions of a living organism.
The word pentimento derives from the Italian, repentance, correction; reappearance in a painting of an image which has been
painted over. In these pentimento works, the layers are always evident; the human body is always there.
The work is created in layers with each image both obscuring and enhancing portions of the previous image.
These works attempt to express, in visual and intellectual media, the layers of physical existence. Jacobs says,
"It is the affirmation of body, mind and soul".
